Simply put is a way of supplying products to customers without holding stock of your own.
It is a cheap way of doing business. Within drop ship, There are many pit falls, as I have personally discovered. I will attempt to steer you through the dropship mine field.
Firstly, choose a reputable dropship company. There are way too many dropship companies out there that promise to drop ship, but never have stock, though it looks like it on there site.
They will take your money and promise to post. The first you will know is when the customer emails you to say the item has not been delivered.
Secondly, there are a lot of dropship companies that hide vat, so you put an item on your site, when you order it through your chosen dropship company, you will see your profit's crash when vat is suddenly applied. Also, some dropship companies charge extra for drop shipping. Some up to four british pounds per item. Some add vat and drop ship charge. I personally avoided the above described "dropship" companies.
Wholesale
As with dropship there are pitfalls with wholesale.
Some wholesale companies have a minimum order, with some wholesale companies, you have to buy an amount of the same item and with some wholesale companies they will send you mixed colours and sizes.
All very well, if you have an amount of money to set up with, but for the small time business, you need to find a wholesale supplier that will send you one or a small amount of items.
